I just realized Windows 7 doesn’t have one of my favorite XP powertoys, Image Resizer. I constantly use this utility to quickly resize images with the convenience of the Windows shell context.
Luckily I found that the guys over at CodePlex have updated the utility to run on Windows Vista and Windows 7 and even have a 64-bit version to boot. w00t!
You can find it here.
I found out this morning while downloading some utilities that Windows 7 is as vulnerable to the Vundo Trojan as previous versions of Windows. Somewhat disappointed, I have started out performing all the necessary cleaning operations:
Everything appears to be good, and I am not getting any alerts from Windows or my antivirus software.
While getting my Windows 7 laptop setup to be a development system, I noticed that IIS is not an option for install with Windows 7 (as with Vista, XP, 2000, etc.). After a quick Google search I found the following Technet article at Microsoft. There are no instructions for Windows 7, but I found using the Vista guidelines work for Windows 7 too.
One more thing checked off my Windows 7 install list.
I have been using a combination of Daemon Tools and MagicDisc for Windows XP and Vista, but when upgrading to Windows 7 I found out that Daemon Tools no longer works. I did some quick research and found that a lot of other folks liked PowerISO. I downloaded it, installed it, and it works great. It also has shell integration which I always found to be a critical feature missing from Daemon Tools.
